Ayurveda Final Week – Travel Kit

Just 5 days before we gather together for the festival. Are you ready? Whenever I travel I always pack a little travel kit with me to ensure that my transition from A to B is a smooth one. I also give this same advice to my clients and students. So what goes into the kit? It varies depending on whether I am doing international or local travel, but a simplified version is the following:

  1. Black Sesame Oil (organic, cold pressed) in a dropper bottle. This is to be used to apply to your skin, your crown and in your nostrils and ears. Especially if you are travelling via plane, it is easy to dry out, catch a cold from your fellow passengers or feel generally sensitive.

  2. Rose water in a spray bottle. Spritz this on your face to keep your skin hydrated and refreshed. This will also be invaluable if the weather at the festival gets warm to keep you cool.

  3. Thermos and herbal tea bags. Fill your thermos with hot water (if you are travelling via plane do it at one of the cafes on the other side of security). Add some herbal tea and sip on this throughout your travel. I like to use Organic India’s Tulsi Licorice Spice blend for travelling as the herbs keep the aggravating Vata (ether and air) elements at bay.

  4. Digestive herbs. Have your holistic practitioner prescribe some gentle herbs to keep your digestion balanced. The type of herb will depend on your constitution so avoid using general over the counter herbs – even though it’s natural!

  5. Travel homeopathic remedies and/or flower essences. Again, have a practitioner put together a kit for you that is aimed at making travel a breeze.

In addition to the travel kit I make sure I have a wholesome home cooked breakfast in the morning so that I don’t resort to having to eat at airports. Cooked oats with warming spices is always a winner. If my travel is long then I will also come prepared with a food thermos with home cooked kitcheri so I don’t find myself hungry, having to search for places to eat or giving into airport/road snacks and food.

These tips have been shared by Namo Dev of Conscious Living, our community’s Āyurvedic and Homeopathic practitioner. Namo Dev will also be presenting at the festival as well as offering Āyurvedic tongue diagnosis and Sat Nam Rasayan healing with the Sat Nam Rasayan team. Be sure to drop in and say hello.
